So, here’s the deal: The AMS owns an astonishingly great collection of Canadian art, for a group of self-centred hacks who don’t give a shit about art and haven’t for the last 50 years.
We believe the “Academic” designation for Gage South is sensible and puts the academic mission of the university first. It’s a university – core land should be recognized as such and we would rather not see UBC’s land grant squandered in unfortunate ways.
Should private companies which are wholly-owned by BC universities be subject to the same FOI requirements as their parent universities? A case involving UBC will be trying to get the answer to that question soon.
Students and the AMS need to come up with a new direction for the area, and fast. Otherwise, things will end up right back where they started.
Simply put, there are advantages as well as risks associated with NCAA membership. The advantages will only benefit the small minority of students in the varsity program. Meanwhile, the risks are assumed by the entire UBC community. On the whole, I don’t believe UBC will be better off as a member of the NCAA.
After the conclusion of the UVSS referendum yesterday, CFS national chair Roxanne Dubois and CFS-BC Chair-elect Zach Crispin quickly traveled over to Vancouver and were spotted on campus today collecting signatures to put the petition over the 1000-signature threshold.
The AMS has been an Associate Member of CASA for 3 years now, and I am advocating that we either shit, or get off the pot.
*But weren’t told by the people who stand to gain from it.
Two weeks ago, no one knew a Phase 3 of Sauder renovations existed. Construction will be starting in April. While it’s going forward, it has significantly eroded the Board’s trust in Dan Muzyka. But it’s commerce students who should feel most betrayed. They were swindled out of millions.
These candidates are also the ones that we feel will serve the student population most faithfully and truly listen when students raise concerns.
