Nominations for the 2011 AMS Elections are now open until Friday. Ever thought of running? From a past exec, here’s how to tell whether or not an executive position on the AMS is right for you.
1. Are you a big fan of long council meetings which don’t really need to be that long but are that long because everyone wants to say the same thing in their own words.
2. Do you enjoy using words like “point of personal privilege” or “I challenge the chair”?
3. Do you enjoy spending long periods of time in the SUB?
4. Do you enjoy getting emails at all hours of the night and sometimes getting up to answer them?
5. Do you enjoy hearing about super exciting initiatives and being able to provide input about what you think?
6. Are you good at coming up with nicknames for when a clusterfuck happen?
7. Are you good at saying ridiculous things like “Tayyar might “call CSIS [Canadian Security Intelligence Service] or someone, and see what their impression is”?
8. Do you enjoy turning that 5-year degree into 6, and almost failing the few classes you do take?
9. Are you good at taking all the credit when things go right, and deflecting all the blame when they don’t?
10. Do you like being interviewed by the Ubyssey on a weekly basis?
Have anymore you would like to add? Comment below!
“point of personal privilege” and “I challenge the chair” are phrases, not words themselves. I’d like to amend point two to correct this.
As some one who lives the life, let me tell you right now, it’s something you’ll never forget and won’t regret.

On the bright side, when you’re all done, you can launch your own blog with a “punchy video”! (His words, not mine)
